What is the pathogenesis of rubella?

	How is the rubella virus manifested?
	Rubella is spread by airborne transmission or droplets shed in respiratory secretions of infected persons. Rubella is most contagious when the rash is erupting; however, patients can shed the virus from 10 days before onset of the rash to 15 days after its onset.^1,2
