	HPV is a widespread virus
	EVERY DAY ~17,000 new HPV infections occur in the United States¹^,a THIS MEANS ~75% to 80% of males and females will be infected with HPV in their lifetime²^,³^,a Though most HPV infections clear on their own, persistence of certain HPV types can lead to clinically significant diseases.¹ ^aNumber represents more than 30 HPV types, not just Types 6, 11, 16 and 18.

	How is HPV acquired and transmitted?
	HPV can be easily acquired and transmitted even without sexual intercourse. It can be spread through many types of genital contact, and it may take only 1 encounter to be infected with the virus.⁴Individuals can acquire HPV from others who are infected but who don’t have visible disease or lesions.⁵
