Reusable Shipping Containers

Reusable Shipping Containers

As Merck continues to evolve and expand our use of the Reusable Shipping Container, Merck will be replacing the current Styrofoam Shipping Container with the Reusable Shipping Container, in phases, across the country, which will help reduce waste and negative impacts on our environment.

Important changes that you should be aware of include:

  • The Reusable Shipping Container will look different than the current Styrofoam Shipping Container you have been receiving.
  • The Reusable Shipping Container will now be used for ALL STANDARD small partial shipments for ALL Merck Vaccines. Please refer to the map below as to when you will start to receive the Reusable Shipping Container.
  • In mid-2021, Merck plans to begin using the reusable shipping container for shipments going to Southeastern states per the map below. Vaccines shipped Frozen will be first to use the Reusable Shipping Container, beginning in June, with vaccines shipped Refrigerated following in August. The transition will be rolled out state by state, so you may not see the new Reusable Shipping Container right away.
  • In early-2022, Merck plans to begin using the Reusable Shipping Container for shipments going to central and northern states, per the map below.
  • Please bear in mind that until all distribution centers are using the Reusable Shipping Container, you may receive both the Styrofoam, as well as the Reusable Shipping Container for vaccine products.
  • The new Merck Memphis, TN warehouse will be shipping the Reusable Shipping Container via FedEx. The existing Reno, Nevada and Plainfield, Indiana warehouses will continue to utilize UPS as their carrier.
